VRecruiter

Virtual Reality Recruitment & Onboarding Training SaaS Platform
UX/UI Design
Project Overview

VRecruiter is a SaaS platform based on the desktop that uses virtual reality technology to help small and medium companies with recruitment and onboarding training.

My Role

This project is a personal thesis project. I conduct User research, content strategy, wireframes, prototypes, and visual design.

Tools

Qualtrics, Microsoft Word, Xmind, Axure RP9, Unity 3D, Adobe XD, Adobe Photoshop

Problem Statement

For almost every company, spending a lot of money and time on recruiting and training new employees is a pain point. According to Glassdoor's HR and Recruiting Stats statistics, the average cost per hire in 2019 is also about $4,000. In 2020, due to the pandemic, companies face new challenges in recruitment and training. For example, many companies cancel onsite interviews and only conduct online interviews.

In addition, there are still have a lot of pain points for recruiters and companies in hiring people. For example, first, many recruiters find it is difficult to attract more talented candidates. The second is that the candidate declined the offer, which forced the recruiter to do the recruitment again. This is a very big problem for recruiters. In this case, not only waste more time and money but also lost talents. The third horrible situation for companies is that newly hired employees quit their job within a few days.

Project Goals

1. Save time and money for companies’ recruitment and training
2. Attract more valuable and creative talents for companies
3. Establish a stable relationship between employers and employees
4. Reduce the situation that new employees quit the job after only work a few weeks

User Research

1. Competitive Analysis

Due to the characteristics of VR technology (which allows us to take virtual risks to gain real-world experience), VR is increasingly being used to help train employees to do their jobs. Especially in the past year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for virtual training applications has greatly increased.
I did competitive research on products that were similar to my ideas, found out their pros and cons. Summarize the strength and weaknesses of my concept in comparison.

Strength & Weakness of VRecruiter
2. Surveys

This survey has 12 questions, and I got a total of 36 responses. Among them, 22 internal recruiters provided me with sufficient and valuable responses. These responses  helped me with my further research and design.

Goals:

· Understand the application usage habits of the recruiters, what kind of design allows users to quickly get started.
· Understand internal recruiter’s attitudes and thoughts of using VR technology in recruitment and training.
· Understand the pain points of recruiters in recruitment work.

3. Persona

This persona was built based on the survey results. It shows Alice Robert's Bio, frustrations, motivations, and goals. This persona gives me a clear picture of what I should focus on in my further design. I will focus on attracting more applications, improving recruitment efficiency, and screening candidates with matching backgrounds and skills.

4. Interviews

I interviewed five internal recruiters in total, hoping to learn from their interviews about what is the application usage habits of recruiters, and what kind of design allows users to get started quickly? And, what are the attitudes and thoughts of internal recruiters using VR technology in recruitment and training? Also, what are the pain points of recruiters in their work?

Findings:

What this means:

· Add screener feature to help recruiters screen candidates in the application.
· Sending links to candidates is very effective. It may be convenient that send VR training and testing links to candidates or employees.
· Lower the barrier to use, so that both parties can achieve virtual reality with only the most basic equipment such as a computer.
· I can add a feature to help recruiter arrange their schedule.
· Make it easy for users to use templates, while also allowing them to better customize content.

Sitemap

Through the surveys results, persona, and interviews findings, I determined the main features of VRecruiter. Create the work scenarios, create the test and training project is the main features. The next feature is analyzing the data from these tests and training results, help recruiters better screen the candidates. Showcase is also an essential feature of this application. There have many templates for recruiters to pick for their projects.

Wireframes

I made these wireframes based on the sitemap. A project contains multiple scenarios, users can make a flow to logic the scenarios in each project. Users can directly create a new scenario or new project on the dashboard. This wireframes laid a good foundation for my prototype design.

Prototypes

User Flow -- Scenario 1:
Alice wants to create a new scene for her project. She is working on creating a test to test the candidate's communication ability at work.

Step1: Create a scenario
Step2: Set background
Step3: Set character
Step4: Set camera
Step5: Add audio
Step6: Preview and Save the scenario

User Flow -- Scenario 2:
Alice finishes all scenarios for the her project(Test the communication ability). She needs to sort these scenarios to make the test logical.

User Flow -- Scenario 3:
Alice sent this test to candidates, and got test results from them.  She want to check the test report in this application, and deiced which candidate will in the next hiring step.

User Flow -- Scenario 4:
Alice have no idea how to create a test in this application. Also, she does not have so much time on research how to create a VR test. But she still want to have a VR test to screen candidates.

Usability Test

I conducted a usability test and got the real and useful feedback from my target users(internal recruiters) to find out which faatures provide a great experience, and which cause problems.

Video demo

I used Unity 3D to create two scenarios, one in the conference room and the other in the break room. Through some conversations that often occur in daily work, to test the various abilities of the candidates. Below is the demo video, which is the test that the candidate will see when the recruiter sent to them.

Reflection

I really like the concept to let VR technology help recruitment. Because of the COVID, many industries have been affected a lot, and recruitment also faced more challenges. I think VR technology is a trend to help us work together although we are in different places.

As a new graduate of 2021, I am struggling with job searching. In the future, I may also need to adapt to work remotely not see my colleagues in person. So I hope that there will be VR products that can help me work remotely, just like a virtual office.

If I have more time to complete this project, I will continue to think about how to highlight the company's brand and culture, how to make their scenarios more unique. In addition, I really want to cooperate with some developers to do some research about the possibility of this product realization.

In the future, I hope it can be used not only for recruitment, but also as a virtual Office, allowing employees to feel like they are in office even at home.
